Police on Wednesday were investigating the death of a young boy in a Cache County home.

Investigators were alerted to a possible child welfare problem about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday after a 42-year-old woman went to a hospital. Hospital staff, concerned about her 2-year-old son, called police and asked them to check on him at a home in River Heights, deputies wrote in a news statement Wednesday night.

Investigators arrived to find a body of a young boy. Deputies did not indicate whether the boy found in the home is the son of the 42-year-old woman who arrived at the hospital.

A medical examiner is investigating the cause of the boy's death. Further details were being withheld pending family notifications.
