The Davis County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday identified a teenage hiker who died of his injuries following a weekend fall in Adams Canyon.
Sheriff's Sgt. Susan Poulsen said 15-year-old Adam Patrick McBride, of Washington Terrace, was hiking with a group of friends on Saturday when he slipped and fell 50 feet, about 2 miles from the canyon's trailhead.
McBride, who suffered severe head trauma, was taken by helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, where he was later pronounced dead.
McBride's family on Wednesday issued the following statement:
"Adam Patrick McBride was taken from us much too early in a tragic hiking accident over the weekend. Adam had a huge heart and a special smile that affected everyone he came in contact with. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
"The family would like to thank the Davis County Sheriffs, search and rescue, life flight, and all of the EMTs and everyone at Primary Children's for all of their efforts to try and save Adam. The family would also like to give a special thanks to the unknown woman who gave Adam CPR until emergency personnel arrived."
Funeral services were scheduled 12:30 p.m. Friday at Lindquist Mortuaries 3408 Washington Boulevard in Ogden.
Donations to the family can be made at any Wells Fargo in the name of Adam McBride of Washington Terrace.
