A Washington cyclist died when a van struck him while he was riding Tuesday night in St. George.

Braydon E Nielsen, 36, was riding a bicycle with a group of cyclists about 5:45 p.m. west on State Road 7, troopers wrote in a news statement. A westbound Dodge Caravan was traveling west and struck Nielsen from behind; Nielsen died at the scene.

Witnesses said the sun was low at the time, making sight difficult for westbound drivers. The driver is cooperating with investigators, troopers wrote.

Nielsen was wearing a helmet, troopers wrote.
