A 59-year-old man accused of running over a Cottonwood Heights woman as he backed out of a steep driveway was ordered Tuesday to stand trial.
Dan L. Eining is charged with criminal negligent homicide in the April death of Sheralyn Quinney. The charge is a class A misdemeanor and carries a maximum sentence of a year in jail.
On Tuesday, 3rd District Judge Robin Reese ordered Eining to stand trial after hearing evidence in the case against him. Three witnesses testified at Tuesday's hearing, including Quinney's husband, according to court documents.
Quinney, who was hit by Eining's car, as she was walking with her husband near 3600 East and 8200 South, died at Intermountain Medical Center shortly after the crash. She was 75.
The woman was knocked down and hit her head on the concrete. Paramedics took her to the hospital, where she underwent surgery.
Eining told police he did not see the couple walking behind his car until it was too late, officials said.
Her husband, Gary Quinney, was unharmed.
Eining is out on $2,500 bail.
