A Stansbury Park toddler was in critical condition Tuesday after being run over by the family minivan.

Tooele County Sheriff's Sgt. Shandy Lewis said the 22-month-old girl had been sitting inside the vehicle with a 5-year-old brother shortly before the accident at 9:18 a.m.

The boy crawled up from the back seat, took the keys — which his mother had left on the seat — and put them into the ignition, but did not start the vehicle.

However, he did accidentally knock the gear shift into neutral, the toddler fell out of an open door and tumbled under the minivan's wheels.

The child was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

Lewis said the incident remained under investigation.
