Utah Highway Patrol troopers were forced to shoot two cows after they wandered into traffic on Interstate 15 along the Weber-Box Elder county line.
UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said the incident occurred just after 8 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes near Pleasant View. It took about an hour for troopers, aided by Weber County sheriff's deputies, to chase down the animals, which had wandered onto the freeway from a nearby pasture.
Hoyal said the decision eventually was made to "put down" the cows when their continued risk to vehicles and drivers, as well as officers trying unsuccessfully to corral them, was deemed too dangerous.
