A 19-year-old Salt Lake City woman died and a man and two infants were hospitalized late Sunday in a car crash on southbound Interstate 215.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a Toyota Camry was travelling south on I-215 about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, when the car swerved to the right and struck the retaining wall near 5700 South.
State troopers did not immediately know what caused the car to crash.
The two adults in the car were taken to Intermountain Medical Center, while the two infants in the back seat were taken to Primary Children's Medical Center "as a precaution," the UHP said.
Francine Martinez, who had been riding in the passenger seat of the car, died shortly after arriving at the hospital. She was 19 years old.
The driver, 20-year-old Charlie Diep of Midvale, was in critical condition as of early Monday.
UHP officials believe Diep is the father of the children, who were released from the hospital shortly after they were checked for injuries.
It was not initially clear whether Martinez had any relation to the children.
An investigation is ongoing.
