A 25-year-old man was in critical condition Friday, the day after his motorcycle drifted off a curve in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the accident occurred at 8:20 p.m. just below the Solitude Ski Resort, near 11800 E. Big Cottonwood Canyon.

"[The victim] was riding a Yamaha bullet bike eastbound and could not negotiate the turn. The rider and the motorcycle went off the road to the south and down a ravine about 100 feet to the river below," Hoyal said.

The rider, who suffered leg and other injuries, was wearing a helmet.

Hoyal said speed and possibly alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash.
