Layton police find fugitive hiding under a blanket
Taking a peek under a blanket paid off for Layton police when officers founded a fugitive wanted in Utah, Alabama and Wyoming.
Jamie Cleghorn, 34, had been on the run from nearly 40 arrest warrants since she was accidentally released from Salt Lake City's University Hospital on Aug. 14. She had been injured when she crashed while being chased by Riverton, Wyo. police two days before.
On Tuesday, Cleghorn was being held in Davis County Jail without bail on suspicion of four felony counts of forgery, three felony counts of identity theft, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and a prior count of distribution of pornography.
Layton City Police Sgt. Alex Davis said Cleghorn was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Monday in West Point, Utah after a Layton detective was tipped to her whereabouts. Police spotted her husband Adam Wheeler's car, pulled it over and found her curled up the back seat under the blanket.
Police said they had previously contacted Wheeler about her whereabouts; he was being referred to county prosecutors for possible obstruction of justice charges.
Salt Lake City police acknowledged they had ended guarding Cleghorn at the hospital earlier this month after being told she was immobile and no longer considered to be violent.
