Black Diamond Equipment will play host Sept. 12 to the 20th annual fall fundraiser for the Utah Avalanche Center.

The 6 p.m. event at Black Diamond's plant, 2084 E. 3900 South, features a silent auction involving all sorts of outdoor recreation gear, music by Herban Empire, food from Rico and beverages from Uinta Brewing.

This year's rendition also will feature the inaugural presentation of the Avalanche Center's Mount Superior Award. It will honor a company or individual, based in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, for contributions to snow safety and avalanche awareness.

Last year's fundraiser attracted more than 1,100 people and raised more than $65,000 for the Avalanche Center, which provides daily updates on snow conditions in the backcountry of the Wasatch and Uinta mountains.

Cost is $39 in advance (through 9 p.m. on Sept. 11), then $45 on the day of the event. Children under 12 will be admitted free, said Black Diamond spokesman John Dicuollo, although a $10 donation is being requested if they eat.

No dogs are allowed, he added, noting that the event will be held outdoors whatever the weather.

Tickets are available at the Black Diamond store, REI stores in Millcreek and Sandy, and at the door.
