A morning motorcycle crash in South Jordan injured the driver and killed the passenger Saturday.

South Jordan Police Sgt. Rich Whittaker said the driver, a 32-year-old man, was taken to Intermountain Medical Center with a broken leg and other injuries but was expected to survive. His passenger, a 29-year-old woman, was killed. Police did not release the woman’s name Saturday.

Whittaker said the motorcycle was traveling south on 200 West just after midnight Saturday when it came to a curve at around 10950 South. The driver was going too fast and failed to negotiate the bend, causing the motorcycle to go off the right side of the road. Both occupants were ejected, and neither was wearing a helmet.

The passenger was taken via helicopter to a hospital in Salt Lake City, but she passed away soon after, Whittaker said.

Police were investigating if alcohol played a role in the crash and whether to screen charges against the driver.
