Representatives of the Japanese city of Yuzawa donated 30 flowering cherry trees to Magna on Friday to commemorate 10 years of friendship as sister cities.

Yuzawa Town Mayor Kiyotaka Kamimura's presentation of the gift was followed by a planting ceremony at Matheson Junior High.

Student body officers from Matheson and student representatives from a Yuzawa school jointly planted a tree as part of the ceremony.

Yuzawa has been sending students to Magna every summer since 2004 to develop their English language skills and learn local customs and culture.
