Crews from the South Davis Metro Fire Department extinguished a grass fire that started in a field in North Salt Lake on Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Jeff Bassett said the fire was started by after a worker in a repair shop sent some embers caused by a metal grinder into a nearby field. The fire grew to 4 acres before crews put it out, Bassett said.

The empty field, located near 400 N. 700 West, is between the repair shop and an Albertson's distribution center, but no structures were threatened, according to Bassett.

Eighteen firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour before putting it out.
