Bountiful's Zac Seljaas, a 6-foot-7 swingman, has verbally committed to play for BYU.

"I just knew it was right for me," said Seljaas, who also held offers from Utah, Utah State and the University of San Francisco.

Seljaas visited the BYU campus last week and said he informed coach Dave Rose of his decision Sunday.

As a sophomore last year with the Braves, Seljaas displayed an excellent combination of size and skill. He averaged nearly 15 points, four rebounds and three assists per game, earning second-team all-state honors. Seljaas has excellent range, knocking down 49 3-pointers on the year.

Seljaas, who will be a junior this year, called it a relief to make his decision so early.

"It's relieving just knowing that I can focus on straight up basketball and can do high school without that pressure," he said.

Seljaas has grown bigger and stronger since helping the Braves reach the Class 4A semifinals last season, falling to eventual champions Sky View in overtime. He and Utah State-commit Sam Merrill should prove to be one of the state's best duos this year.

"It was disappointing to lose [in the playoffs], but it was also a great experience to get that far being a young team and to get that experience," he said. "Our goal and our dream is to win a state championship."

Earlier this year, Bountiful coach Mike Maxwell said Seljaas was one of the hardest working players he's coached in a quarter century with the Braves.

"He's just a young kid still learning the game, but he's a terrific player with great range," Maxwell said. "He's got a motor that doesn't quit; he keeps after it. He's going to be a terrific player down the road. I love his work ethic."
