Man dies in car vs. FrontRunner train crash in Roy
An elderly man was killed Friday morning when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a FrontRunner commuter train in Roy.
A Weber County public safety dispatcher confirmed the accident occurred at 9:15 a.m. along tracks near the intersection of 4800 South and 2700 West.
Utah Transit Authority spokesman Remi Barron said a witnesses saw the man, identified by Roy police as 88-year-old Everett Browning, drive through flashing red lights and onto the tracks as the barrier arms came down. The oncoming FrontRunner train went into emergency braking mode, but was unable to avoid the collision.
The collision crushed the car and Browning was dead at the scene.
UTA implemented a "bus bridge" to transport FrontRunner passengers between the Roy and Clearfield stations until the wreckage could be cleared and the investigation completed.
