Chief Deputy Attorney General Kirk Torgensen won a top award from a regional organization of attorneys general last week for recognition of "his commitment to public service in Utah and other western states," according to a statement from Utah's attorney general's office.
Torgensen, who serves as Attorney General John Swallow's second in command in the criminal division, was given the 2013 Jim Jones Public Service Award by the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG).
Swallow nominated Torgensen for the award. In his nominating letter, Swallow pointed to Torgensen's training at national and regional conferences, creation of a program to protect the social security numbers of children from identity theft and usage of office-wide surveys to create mentoring plans at the A.G.'s office.
According to CWAG's website, the organization has existed since 1982 and is comprised of the chief legal officers of 15 western states and three Pacific territories. Awards are given annually.
