The Utah Highway Patrol on Saturday identified the woman who died after an antique car she was riding in rolled near Zion National Park as 51-year-old Karen Johnson of Owatonna, Minn.
The crash happened 10:20 a.m. Friday on State Road 9, about 5 miles west of Mount Carmel Junction. The driver of the 1915 Ford Model T pulled over to allow other traffic to pass. When the car's wooden-spoked right front wheel went off the pavement, the wheel came apart and the vehicle overturned. All four occupants, who were visiting from Minnesota, were ejected.
A helicopter flew Johnson to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George where she was pronounced dead. The other three occupants of the car were taken to Kane County Hospital with minor injuries.
The four were part of a larger Model T club that had traveled to Utah from Minnesota. They towed the antique cars on trailers before taking them on the trip to the park.
