A Taylorsville man was stabbed early Saturday after he allegedly got into a fight with several teenagers at a party.

Police say a 17-year-old boy stabbed the 39-year-old man outside the man’s home at 4384 S. 1265 West. The man had been hosting a party, according to Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal, and followed four teenagers outside where a confrontation ensued. Hoyal described the weapon used in the stabbing as a pocket knife.

Police arrived about 5:30 a.m. and the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Hoyal said the man remained in critical condition at midday Saturday, although his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. Investigators were unable to interview the victim Saturday.

Police arrested the alleged stabber — whose name has not been released because he is a minor — for alleged rioting, aggravated assault, assault and consumption of alcohol by a minor. Dillon Sanchez, 18, was arrested for alleged rioting and consumption of alcohol by a minor. Another 17-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence.

Sanchez and one of the 17 year olds also were transported to a hospital with nonlife-threatening, blunt-force injuries.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and alcohol appears to have been a factor in the altercation. Hoyal did not know how the man and the suspects knew each other or why they were at a party together. He added there were only a few people at the party when the stabbing occurred.
