Police used a Taser to subdue a man who allegedly attacked a 14-year-old boy and a dog in west Salt Lake City's Jordan Park before confronting officers responding to a 911 call.
Salt Lake City police Detective Veronica Montoya said the 30-year-old man, who also was arrested in 2011 in an alleged assault on a police officer, adopted a fighting stance and refused repeated police commands to get on the ground while threatening to kill officers.
After the Taser was used to take the man into custody, he was booked in Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of numerous misdemeanor counts ranging from child abuse, animal cruelty, disorderly conduct and public intoxication to assault on a police officer.
A probable cause statement noted that after being advised of his right to remain silent, the man confessed to police that he had been drinking heavily and smoking spice.
No officers were hurt during the struggle to arrest the man, who also was not seriously hurt.
The man remained behind bars Friday in lieu of $4,527 bail.
The boy and dog allegedly struck by the suspect were not seriously hurt.
