Another Thursday, another bank robbery by a Halloween-masked man, and the police want the public to help finally bring him to justice.
South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said that the suspect held up another bank Thursday morning, this time the Zions Bank branch at about 3900 S. 700 East, waving a handgun and demanding cash.
The same suspect — a 6-foot-2 black male, about 180 pounds and wearing a transparent Halloween mask with a gray knit cap, black gloves, dark pants and a long-sleeved shirt — is believed to have held up a US Bank branch near 2700 S. 300 West last Thursday.
On that day, the man walked into the Zions bank at 10:40 a.m. and pointed a black pistol at customers and employees before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Investigators suspect he might be the same robber who hit a Zions Bank branch in Salt Lake City, at 910 W. 2100 South, on July 11 — also a Thursday. The man was wearing a distinctive red mask when he brandished a weapon and demanded cash from a teller, according to a Salt Lake City police news release. He then left and was last seen heading north on foot, that release adds.
"It could be somebody in the same clothing, I can't say 100 percent it's the same person, but there is a strong resemblance and the [modus operandi is the same]," Keller said.
Witnesses have told police that the robber gets away in a vehicle that he parks nearby, but investigators are frustrated that surveillance cameras have not caught the vehicle and its license plate yet, Keller said.
Anyone spotting the suspect should call 911 or South Salt Lake police at 801-840-4000 immediately. Do not approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous, Keller said.
Salt Lake City police ask anyone who knows his whereabouts to call 801-799-3000.
No shots were fired and no one was injured in any of the robberies.
