Crews had hemmed in the 40-acre Aspen Springs Fire as a new wildfire sparked in southern Utah on Thursday.
The new lightning-caused fire, dubbed Cinder Fire, began about 3:25 p.m. between Veyo and Brookside in western Washington County. As of Thursday evening, crews had not reached any containment on the 100-acre blaze, but it was not threatening any structures.
Meanwhile, Fire Information Officer Adam Solt reported that the Aspen Springs Fire, which burned in pinyon, juniper, sagebrush and grass on private land 2 miles east of Spring City in Sanpete County, was turned over to local fire departments to monitor as of late Wednesday.
"It's basically out at this point," Solt said. "They will probably just keep an eye on it for another day or two."
No injuries were reported and no structures were lost, though shortly after the fire was spotted on Sunday a voluntary evacuation advisory had been issued to about 50 homeowners in the Pine Mountain Subdivision. That advisory was lifted earlier this week.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation, though thunderstorms and dry lightning had moved through the region last weekend.
