Police arrested a man Wednesday morning under suspicion of trying to kill his estranged wife the night before.

At 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the couple met at a park in Fruit Heights to arrange some details of their separation, according to a Davis County Sheriff’s Office news release.

At some point, the 25-year-old man pulled out a sharp object and cut the woman’s neck, the release adds.

"It was a serious wound in a dangerous part of the body, and she was taken to the hospital in serious condition," according to the release. She is expected to survive.

Hours later, the man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was booked into the Davis County Jail, said Davis County sheriff’s Sgt. Susan Poulsen.
