A father and his two boys were safely retrieved from Cache County's Wellsville Mountains Monday night.

A Cache County sheriff's dispatcher confirmed the Nibley man and his children, ages 5 and 9, were unharmed and back home with family early Tuesday after becoming lost early Monday afternoon.

Sheriff's Lt. Chad Jensen said deputies were dispatched to the mountains near Logan about 12:30 p.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call that hikers had become lost on the sun-baked, rugged slopes.

The father and children had hiked into the area Sunday and spent the night, but on their way back down the mountain on Monday they drifted off the trail and lost their way. Authorities were concerned because the three were running low on water with temperatures rising into the high 90s.

Search and rescuer crews located the three late Monday afternoon and after checking them out and making sure they were hydrated, a helicopter began lifting them down the mountain about 6 p.m.
