A semi-trailer rig hauling a tanker full of crude oil rolled Monday morning on U.S. 40 near a creek that feeds into the Provo River.
Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Dwayne Baird said the rig was apparently attempting to make an illegal U-turn and collided with a Jeep about 9 a.m. in the eastbound lanes. The non-injury crash, about 12 miles west of Heber City, led to the big rig rolling over and spilling some of its load.
Baird said it was not thought any of the oil had made it into the creek, but hazardous materials crews were on the scene Monday afternoon cleaning up the spill.
Baird did not know how much of the tanker's load had spilled, but it was not considered to be a large amount.
The crash was cleared and all lanes were open by 12:40 p.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
