Salt Lake County Parks and Rec administrator charged with stealing fees

A Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation administrator is accused of stealing up to $5,000 in registration fees.

Colette Colovich was director of the Salt Lake County sports office starting in July 2010, according to charges filed Tuesday. In May, her supervisor noticed funds missing from entry fees collected from the ninth-grade youth basketball program, investigators wrote. An audit revealed further irregularities in fee records of Amateur Athletic Union events. Several teams that played in events had no registration recorded; others were listed to have registered but with their fees still outstanding, investigators wrote.

County auditors and Parks and Recreation directors interviewed Colovich, who admitted to stealing $3,500 to $5,000 in entry fees and altering the registration records, investigators wrote.

Colovich was charged with misuse of public money, a third-degree felony. She resigned in June.
