A father and son from Salt Lake County plan to split $1 million from a winning Powerball ticket bought in Idaho.

Mike Middlemiss and his son, Chris Middlemiss, had been sharing tickets for years, promising to split their winnings. On Saturday night, one of their tickets matched the five first numbers, according to a news release by the Idaho Lottery.

Chris Middlemiss is a paramedic and his wife is a student. Last week they were poring over family finances trying to devise a way to make a down payment on their first home.

"This could not have come at a better time for my family," Chris Middlemiss said.

He bought the ticket at a Kwik Stop store in Malad, Idaho, while he and his family were returning from a birthday trip to Lava Hot Springs.

Chris Middlemiss said he and his wife plan to pay off some debt with the money left over after the down payment on their property. Mike Middlemiss plans to give some of his money to family and save some for retirement, Idaho lottery officials wrote.
