A couple lost and stranded on Mount Olympus overnight were led to safety early Monday morning by Salt Lake County Search and Rescue personnel.

The Unified Police Department said the 21-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend were about a mile up the mountain when they lost their way along the Mount Olympus Trail about 9 p.m. Sunday.

With darkness falling, they ended up spending the night, and at dawn searchers got them back on the trail and down the mountain safely.

They did get to an area that was pretty steep and had a lot of cliffs in the area," said UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal. "Search and Rescue was called out and located the victims about 2:30 a.m. They were down off the mountain at 5:35 a.m."

Neither of the hikers were injured.
