Utah police find bomb inside vacated home
West Jordan police have evacuated three homes after they discovered a homemade explosive device.
A bomb squad robot went inside and exited the house with what appeared to be a glass bottle filled with shrapnel, with a fuse, and disrupted it about 9 p.m.
A landlord called the police about 3 p.m. Saturday to make sure his renters had moved out, but as police checked the house at 9166 S. Targhee Drive (4170 West), they found the device in a downstairs bedroom, said Officer Ian Adams.
The officers also found a small amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia, but no renters, Adams said. As of 8:45 p.m. Saturday, they were still trying to figure out who made the device. They had been talking to the several people who lived in the home, but Adams said none of them is considered a person of interest at this time.
Police evacuated three homes close by and shut down the block until the state bomb squad can take care of the device. The police had to wait for a search warrant to do so, and only received the permission after 8 p.m. Saturday.
