Lehi water department employees recently saved a woman's wedding after her young child flushed it.
The distressed mother called the water department, which sent out a crew to snake two sections of the sewer mainline, according to a news release published Thursday. The release does not specify when this occurred.
The water department crew found the ring near the second manhole downstream from the woman's home. The crew forced the ring the rest of the way to the manhole, where another worker went down and retrieved it, the release adds.
"Over the years, we've had the opportunity to retrieve personal articles for residents, and it's always rewarding when we are able to successfully return valuable or sentimental items to someone who is afraid they've lost something forever," said water department employee Weston Winters in a statement.
Todd Munger, Lehi's public works director, added in a statement that it would have been easy to "simply say, 'sorry, ma'am'," but the crew preserved "a very special memory, that will undoubtedly be the topic of many family reunions."
