A geyser burst through the asphalt near a Murray intersection.
"There was a pretty good sized rain storm that came in and evidently the [city] storm system wasn't able to handle the water that was coming down," said Murray Fire Department spokesman Russ Groves. A 12-inch water main at 1070 W. 5500 South burst, and the water pressure buckled the street about 5 p.m. Monday, flooding the road.
The water did not get into any homes or businesses, Groves said. Instead, it went down the storm drain and into the Jordan River.
Groves was not sure why the excess water caused the water main to break, adding that the timing of the break may have been coincidental.
