A Clearfield soldier died on duty Wednesday in Qatar in a noncombat incident.

First Sgt. Tracy L. Stapley, 44, was at Camp As Sayliyah with the 308th Medical Logistics Company of St. George, the Department of Defense reported Thursday. The department did not provide details as to the cause of Stapley's death but said the incident was under investigation.

"It's a terrible thing to hear, especially on a Fourth of July weekend," said Capt. Chad Nixon, spokesman for Stapley's command.
