A Salt Lake City motorcyclist remained in critical condition Tuesday, the day after being injured in a multivehicle crash on Interstate 15 in Murray.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said 24-year-old Jose Miranda suffered severe head injuries when his helmet came loose during the collision in the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane near 4900 South shortly before 5 p.m. Monday.

The crashes were triggered by a Toyota Camry that attempted to change from the HOV lane to an interior lane. Discovering another vehicle, a Honda Odyssey already there, the Camry's driver overcorrected, spun out of control, was then struck by the Odyssey and in turn was hit by the Suzuki motorcycle Miranda was riding.

The accident remained under investigation.
