Crews battle small brush fire in Alpine
First Published Jun 28 2013 03:53 pm • Last Updated Jun 28 2013 04:11 pm

Fire crews in Alpine spent a hot Friday afternoon battling a small brush fire.

Mayor Hunt Willoughby said the fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. near the confluence of Fort Canyon Creek and Dry Creek, near Ranch Drive. Willoughby estimated the blaze burned a couple of acres of forested land before crews got it under control around 4 p.m.

"A lot of trees went, a lot of big cottonwoods," he added.

No buildings were destroyed or seriously threatened, Willoughby added.

Willoughby learned about the fire when a city employee drove by city hall with his lights flashing. He followed the employee to the fire and found crews from the Lone Peak Fire district surrounding the blaze.

Willoughby did not immediately know the cause of the fire, which he said charred an area crisscrossed by public trails and private fences.
