About 1,400 Rocky Mountain Power customers found themselves without electricity in Taylorsville and West Valley City early Friday afternoon after a semi-trailer rig struck and toppled several power poles.

The big rig reportedly collided with the poles as it was pulling out of the Driver License Division office area at 2780 W. 4700 South in West Valley City shortly before noon Friday.

Rocky Mountain Power officials said repair crews were dispatched immediately, and by 1 p.m. had restored service to all but about 500 customers.

Full service was expected to be restored by 3 p.m., but the Driver License Division office was closed for the day.
