Gunman answers online ad, steals Playstation

It wasn't exactly Grand Theft Auto, but the gunman who robbed a man and his children of their Sony Playstation now certainly has the gear to play the game.

Salt Lake City police Det. Dennis McGowan said the man, along with his three children, had placed the portable game system up for sale on the KSL.com classifieds. A supposed buyer responded, making arrangement to meet in a parking lot at 1300 S. West Temple Street just before 1 p.m. Thursday.

However, when the father and his kids showed up, they were met by a man who showed a handgun and then ran away with the game gear southbound on West Temple.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

The suspect was described as a white male with a shaved head and the numbers "801" tattooed on the back of his scalp. He also had numerous tattoos on his arms and shoulders.

"SLCPD reminds the public to take safety precautions when online transactions move offline. Never meet a stranger in an isolated place, especially when cash is involved," McGowan said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
