A man died when he was hit by a FrontRunner train Monday evening in Sunset.

The man, 24, was struck by a northbound train around 6 p.m. about 300 yards north of the 2300 North crossing, said Sunset police Chief Ken Eborn.

"It's an area that pedestrians should not be; the only way to get there would be to hop a fence," Eborn said.

The conductor reported seeing the man lie down on the tracks, Eborn said. Investigators suspect the man's death was suicide based on notes he wrote and statements he made to his family, Eborn said.

Investigators believe the man was living with family in Sunset. Police have not released his name.

FrontRunner trains were halted near the scene, and buses were used to transport passengers from Clearfield to Roy, UTA reported. By 9 p.m., train service had been restored.
