Timeline: Matthew David Stewart case
Jan. 4, 2012 • Members of the Weber Morgan Narcotics Strike Force serve an evening "knock and announce" warrant at the Ogden home of Matthew David Stewart. Officer Jared Francom is killed and five other lawmen are injured: Jason VanderWarf, Shawn Grogan, Kasey Burrell, Michael Rounkles and Nate Hutchinson.
Jan. 10 • Weber County Attorney announces he will seek death penalty for Stewart.
Jan. 14 • Stewart charged with aggravated murder, seven counts of attempted murder and one charge of producing a controlled substance.
Jan. 30 • Last of the officers wounded in the shootout released from the hospital.
Feb. 4 • In a jailhouse interview with The Salt Lake Tribune, Stewart claims he thought the law officers were people breaking into his house to "rob and kill me."
Feb. 28 • Court documents disclose Stewart had 16 marijuana plants in his home the night of the raid.
April 13 • Stewart's family stages rally, criticizes use of late-night warrants.
Nov. 2 • Stewart ordered to stand trial after a three-day preliminary hearing.
Nov. 8 • Stewart pleads not guilty to all charges.
Jan. 4, 2013 • Ogden public safety building renamed after Francom; candlelight vigil held at Stewart's home.
May 22 • Judge denies Stewart's request for a special hearing on legality of search warrant.
May 24 • Stewart hangs himself in Weber County Jail.
