Police on Friday were looking for three men in the wake of a west Salt Lake City shootout in which more than a dozen bullets flew through the air.

Salt Lake City police Detective Veronica Montoya said no one was shot during the Thursday afternoon firefight in the median of 500 West and 300 South, though one bullet struck the side of a motor home parked nearby.

The men remained at large Friday afternoon as detectives continued to investigate the brazen gun battle and the identities of its participants.

Montoya said witnesses described one suspect as a white male, about 50 years old, with strawberry-blond hair and a mustache. He was last seen speeding away from the scene in an older, white camper van, which had teal trim, a roof extension and was missing a passenger-side rear window.

The other two fled on foot. One was a 5-foot-4 black male of thin build, wearing a red Washington Nationals baseball cap, white T-shirt and tan baggy pants. His companion also was described as black, about 6 feet tall, 20-30 years old, thin and with short dark hair, clean shaven, wearing a white T-shirt and dark long pants.

Witnesses said the men were standing about 40-50 yards from each other as they fired handguns north and south along the median of 500 West.

Police said from 12 to 15 shots were fired; detectives found a number of 9 mm shell casings from the scene.
