Four people were lucky to be alive Sunday after they were ejected from their pickup and elected to stay near the wreckage.
Tooele County Deputy Keith Borders said the four were driving about midnight near Simpson Springs and Pony Express Road when the male driver lost control of the pickup, over-corrected and rolled it.
A man and woman riding in the back seat were thrown through the pickup's rear window. They spent the night under the bed of the pickup underneath a sleeping bag, Borders said.
The man and woman in the front seat were also both partially ejected, but managed to wiggle their way back inside, he said. Borders said the pickup's door was inoperable.
A passer-by noticed the wreck about 6:30 a.m. and called for help, Borders said.
The male driver and both women were flown by medical helicopter to Salt Lake Valley hospitals. The other man was transported by ambulance and released.
Borders said the occupants had cellphones but told deputies that they had no service in the area of the crash. One of the men said he tried to walk about two miles to get service but decided to come back to the truck and spend the night there, Borders said.
Borders said beer cans — some open and others sealed — were found scattered at the crash site,al though deputies can't prove alcohol was a factor due to the amount of time that had passed before the crash was discovered.
