Firefighters rushed to a two-alarm blaze early Friday morning that heavily damaged a home in West Jordan.
Residents escaped unharmed from the fire at 7529 S. 4950 West, but the flames, smoke and subsequent water damage to the house, its attached garage and two vehicles parked inside reportedly topped $175,000.
West Jordan Fire Chief Marc McElreath said the first alarm was called about 4 a.m., after a man and woman living in the home heard popping noises, investigated, saw their garage aflame and called 911.
At 4:17 a.m., responding West Jordan fire crews called the second alarm as the fire spread into the attached home's attic.
McElreath said it took about 30 minutes to knock down the fire. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, but it did appear to have begun in the garage and then spread into the home's attic.
