She wasn't expecting her baby to be born just yet. But that was before the head-on crash Wednesday evening.
About 5:30 p.m., a pregnant woman was driving north on U.S. 91 through Hyde Park, in Cache County, when she failed to notice that traffic had backed up, said North Park Police Sgt. John Seamons on Thursday.
To avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of her, she veered left at 3444 North from the inside lane into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle. The male driver car suffered a broken leg and ankle and had to be extricated from his vehicle.
The woman was taken to Logan Regional Hospital where she had an emergency cesarean section. Her baby wasn't due until late June or early July.
Both she and the baby — Seamons did not know the child's gender — were flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
Seamons was not aware Thursday of the conditions of the man, the woman or the baby. Their names and ages also were not immediately available.
The investigation is continuing.
