A 10-year-old boy, a 10-year-old girl and a woman are recovering after being attacked by two Rottweilers at a St. George home.
The boy was playing a game on Monday when he hopped a fence into his neighbor's yard near 360 N. 1300 West, where two Rottweilers lunged at him, said Sgt. Sam Despain. The dogs were biting him when the homeowner came running and tried to protect the boy, only to be attacked herself.
The homeowner's 10-year-old daughter came to their rescue. The dogs bit the girl's hands, but thanks to her efforts, the three people managed to get away, Despain said.
All three were taken to a local hospital, the boy with significant bite marks all over his body and the homeowner with injuries to her upper extremities, Despain said.
The boy underwent surgery Monday night. The girl was treated and released.
Despain said Tuesday he was unsure if the woman had been released from the hospital.
The two Rottweilers were taken by animal control. A third animal, which did not participate in the attack, was left at the home. Despain noted that a city ordinance allows only two dogs per household in that area of St. George, Despain said.
"These dogs were not at large. This little boy was playing and ended up in the backyard," Despain said. "It's a really unfortunate circumstance. He was probably in the wrong place in the wrong time."
Despain said he was not sure if the boy lived at the home adjacent to where he was attacked, but he said the boy does live in the neighborhood.
