A 73-year-old sex offender was sentenced last week to jail for exposing himself to a 5-year-old girl at a South Salt Lake building, which houses a public library and charter school.
Robert Peter Ritt, of Provo, pleaded guilty in February to a misdemeanor charge of lewdness with prior offenses involving a child. He was sentenced last week to a year in jail, but given credit for the 175 days he has already spent behind bars since his November arrest.
Third District Judge Ann Boyden ordered Ritt to serve an additional six months in jail before he is released.
The court has yet to determine whether Ritt will be liable for restitution payments in this case.
According to charging documents, Ritt exposed himself to a girl on Nov. 2, at the Columbus Center, 2450 S. 500 East. The girl immediately ran and told her parents what had happened. Her parents called police.
Investigators found surveillance video that captured the incident and showed Ritt returning to the center twice on the same day, police said.
He was captured days later when he returned to the building a fourth time.
Ritt, who originally was charged with a third-degree felony, has a prior child-lewdness conviction in 4th District Court, which covers Juab, Millard, Wasatch and Utah counties.
