Davis County sheriff's deputies chased down and arrested a man who crashed his car and then fled on foot through a West Point neighborhood Wednesday — hiding in four homes until off-duty firefighters cornered him.
Sheriff's Sgt. Susan Poulsen said the 26-year-old man, who has a history of drug offenses, was nabbed just before noon. He had attempted to speed away from a deputy attempting to make a traffic stop near 1600 West and 300 North before crashing about two blocks away.
The man then abandoned the car and fled on foot and hid in the basement of a nearby house, only to get chased out by the homeowner. He then hid in a second home a few doors away while deputies searched the area, Poulsen said.
Two hours later, he came out through the garage door, only for a neighbor to point him out to the deputies and send him on the run again, Poulsen said. He tried to get into two more homes, but the homeowners kicked him out.
He hopped a fence and wound up in a backyard where two off-duty firefighters were doing yard work. They cornered him until the deputies caught up and arrested him.
The man had allegedly been driving on a suspended license and had what looked like spice in the vehicle, Poulsen said.
