Two Utah charter schools and three traditional schools have been ranked as the top five public high schools in Utah by U.S. News & World Report.

But no Utah public school cracked the top 500 nationwide.

The magazine, working in partnership with the American Institutes for Research, ranked North Logan's InTech Collegiate High School as No. 1 in Utah and 652 nationally. The next top four Utah public high schools were the Academy for Math, Engineering & Science in Salt Lake City; Logan High; Timpanogos High in Orem; and Mountain View High in Orem.

Schools were first ranked based on student performance on state math and language-arts tests, which narrowed the list. Finalists were ranked based on performance on Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests. Researchers analyzed more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia to come up with the rankings.
