Salt Lake City fire investigators have ruled the cause of a blaze that damaged five units of the Sky Harbor Apartments late Wednesday as "undetermined but accidental."
Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said Thursday that the male occupant of the second-floor unit where the fire began was not home at the time. Investigators found nothing suspicious about the blaze's origins, but could not identify a precise cause, Asay said.
Two people were displaced by the 7:10 p.m. Wednesday fire at 1876 W. North Temple. Flames heavily damaged the first unit; four other units, adjacent and below the first apartment, sustained varying levels of smoke and water damage.
Smoke and flames were coming out of the windows and roofing of the top apartments when crews arrived, prompting issuance of two alarms. The fire was out about 15 minutes after firefighters attacked.
One male resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but no one else was hurt.
