A University of Utah philosophy professor has been named a Guggenheim fellow.

Elijah Millgram is one of 175 scholars, artists and scientists chosen for the prestigious 2013-14 grant out of nearly 3,000 applicants. Millgram’s research focuses on rationality, theoretical reasoning and practical reasoning, according to a U. spokeswoman.

Millgram earned a bachelor’s degree and doctorate in philosophy from Harvard University, and joined the U. faculty in 1999. He is also a visiting scholar at the University of Arizona.

Though the amount of each award varies, a Guggenheim fellowship provides for six to 12 months of creative work.
