The peregrine falcons of downtown Salt Lake City delivered egg No. 3 around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, much to the pleasure of falcon fans around the world watching via high-definition cameras installed in the nest box.
Egg No. 2 arrived in box on the Joseph Smith Memorial Building early Monday and the first egg of 2013 appeared April 12.
Peregrines typically lay four eggs and followed that course in 2012. One of the eggs from last year failed to hatch. One of the three young peregrines from 2012 died after crashing into a building and two survived, although one spent the winter in a raptor rehabilitation center before being released on Antelope Island.
State wildlife officials expect the eggs to hatch sometime during the week after Mother's Day (May 12) and predict the first attempts at flight to happen near the end of June.
