Provo girl missing overnight found alive, well

First Published Apr 16 2013 08:39 am • Last Updated Apr 18 2013 03:14 pm

Provo police say a 14-year-old girl who went missing from school Monday has been found alive and well.

Provo police Lt. Mathew Siufanua said Charice Beaumont was found Tuesday morning in neighboring Pleasant Grove. She had spent the night "either in or just outside, we’re not sure yet which," an LDS Church chapel there, he said.

The girl called her mother at 9:20 a.m. Provo police did a reverse search on the call, located the origin and then had Pleasant Grove police contact the girl. She was found about 10 a.m. at a home near the chapel where she had asked to use a phone.

Siufanua said Beaumont had since been returned to her parents but would be questioned further about why she apparently decided to run away from home.

Police said it appeared the girl had acted alone, taking food and an unspecified amount of cash with her, but no further details were released.

"We will continue to investigate this," Siufanua said.

Earlier Tuesday, police and hundreds of community volunteers had fanned out to knock on doors and pass out fliers as part of the search for the girl, who had failed to show up for school on Monday.

Siufanua said Beaumont was reported missing Monday at 3:30 p.m. by her parents, who had been alerted by staff at Dixon Middle School that their daughter, who was believed to be riding her bicycle, had not made it to classes after leaving home that morning at about 8:30 a.m.

The girl reportedly sent an e-mail to a friend about the same time. Police said there was nothing unusual about the content of the e-mail, but did not provide further details.
