Police say a St. George woman awoke early Monday morning to find an intruder in her bedroom. The man then tried to choke her.

St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said a female roommate came to the woman's aid. The intruder struck her and then fled.

The suspect was described as 5-foot-9 white male, thin in build, with blond hair, a scruffy beard and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. He remained at large Tuesday.

Despain said it appeared the man entered the apartment, near 1000 East and 100 South, through an unlocked front door about 4 a.m.

Despain said it did not appear anything was stolen from the apartment.

The first woman was not injured; the second woman required treatment for a head laceration.
